il y a 5 grandes catégories de wisky, les :
1 - lowland malt whisky > note citron, pomme (glenkinchi, auchentoshan...)
2 - hightland malt whisky > vanilllé (glenmorange, glenturner..)
3 - speyside malt whisky > banane (aberlour, glenfiddich, glen grant...)
4 - islay malt whisky > fumé, tourbé ( laphroach, caol, bowmore...)
5 - le blended qui est en fait les mélanges des 4
- blended malt scotch = johnnie walker, bell's
- blended scotch whisky = ballantine, chivas...

pour les whiskies d'origine écossaise, il manque campbelton (distillerie springbank), et les iles à l'ouest et au nord, les orcades, skye, mull, jura et arran.
les blend sont des "mélanges" ou assemblages de whiskies de malt et de grain, l'age indiqué est celui du plus jeune entrant dans la composition
